St. Michael's Branch

The Overseas Branch of the

Royal Air Force Police Association

Alan Rusling Memorial Award

2005 Recipient

Alfred Bernstone

Alfred "Alf" served in the RAF Police from 1952 to 1974 joining the Association in 2000. He was very much the driving force behind the formation of the Yorkshire North Branch later that year becoming its first Chairman. He was also the primary organiser of the Association AGM & Reunion in 2003 when his Branch hosted it in Ripon.

He created & moderated a RAFPA Photogroup for members on Yahoo which proved to be so popular that it very quickly filled up and he needed to create another 3 groups to cater for the volume of photograhs submitted.

Whilst Chairman of Yorkshire North (renamed North Yorkshire Branch) he regularly attended Executive Council meetings; he was a highly regarded member of the Council and could always be relied upon to give sage advice when needed.

In 2007 he transferred his Branch membership to the newly formed North East Branch which was much nearer to his home.

In recognition of his outstanding service to the Association, at both National & Branch level, Alf became the 8th recipient of the Award.

Alf sadly passed away on 28th April 2009 aged 79 years.
