St. Michael's Branch

The Overseas Branch of the

Royal Air Force Police Association

Alan Rusling Memorial Award

2002 Recipient

George Murgatroyd

George served in the RAF Police from 1956 to 1958; he joined the RAF Police Association in 1999. In 2000 he was a founding member of the Yorkshire North Branch (now North Yorkshire Branch) and was elected as the first Branch Secretary. George was never one to do things by half and threw himself into the Secretary roll arranging social events and outside visits; he also introduced a successful Branch newsletter. At the 'national' level George was a very effective member of the Executive Council and took on the task of re-vamping the National & Branch "Who's Who" (not to be confused with the Members Directory).

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Association, at both a National & Branch level, he became the 5th recipient of the Memorial Award in 2002.

Despite failing health George continued to contribute to the success of the Association & Branch until his untimely passing on 9th January 2013 aged 74 years.
