2004 Recipient

John Walton MBE

John served in the RAF Police and the Provost Branch from 1959 to 1991; he joined the RAF Police Association in 1991 and is a Life Member. It was due his proactive approach as the Area Representative for Devon & Cornwall that the South West Area Branch (SWAB) was formed in 1999 with him becoming Branch Secretary. The Branch grew in strength and hosted the Association AGM & Reunion in 2002 with John, as usual, leading from the front when organising the event.

As a result of John's superb organising abilities he was responsible for Association participation in the Whitehall Remembrance Parade for the first time in 2003, the Service of Dedication of the Association Standard at St.George's Church, RAF Halton in 2004 and, also in 2004, obtaining permission from the RBL to parade the Standard at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Association. John was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Association in 2003.

In recognition of John's outstanding contribution to the National Association and to the South West Area Branch he became the 7th recipient of the Memorial Award in 2004.
