The below received from John Curtis regarding the Skegness Reunion:

In May I last wrote about the November 2016 "Get Together" weekend in Skegness. (All details about the weekend can be found on the previous news item below dated 26th May). I am pleased to say that we are beginning to fill the 62 rooms. In fact I have just NINE vacant rooms which includes one Penthouse suite. Do not leave it too late or you will miss out on what has become an enjoyable weekend, in a first class hotel, that we have returned to for the past six years. I am sorry to say that will be the last reunion I will be organising at this venue so let’s make it a good one.

7th. R.A.F.P.A. Reunion
Southview Park Hotel, Skegness
on 4th.5th November 2016

Following the success of the six previous reunions that I have organised at this superb venue I was persuaded to continue for another year with the same format. This will be the last time I will be organising this event so don't miss out on a friendly weekend with like minded people!!
All 62 rooms in the hotel have been reserved for the Royal Air Force Police Association, and their guests, for the weekend 4/5 November 2016.
The cost is based on a room (not per person) for two people for two nights. It includes 2 nights Dinner/Bed/Breakfast. A carvery evening meal on Friday and a Formal silver service Dinner on Saturday.

The price this year has increased by £10.(an increase of £2.50 per person per night which I think is acceptable).
It will now be £220 per room.
Single occupancy will be £177.
A deposit of £30 per room is required at time of booking.
Rooms available are:
5 King size.
22 Standard double
10 Standard twin.
Superior rooms have a £25 supplement for the 2 days. They are:
4 Penthouse suites (these have a four-poster bed, balcony, spa bath and walk-in shower)
4 two roomed suites.
4 Superior double
2 Superior twin.
Due to the popularity of the event and people wishing to enjoy more time at this prime venue I have negotiated a deal, £50 per room b&b for Thursday evening (a 30% reduction). You will have to purchase your own evening meal, the hotel restaurant will be open to serve you.
Bookings are to be made direct with the hotel (quote Royal Air Force Police Association).
Tel +44 1754 896060. Do not try to book on line, as you will find all rooms booked.
Any questions to the hotel direct or the East Midland Branch Entertainment Member John Curtis on +44 1159612662, e-mail

26 February 2016

The following e-mail was received from the Association Chairman on 25 February:

To all members of the RAFPA

It is with regret that I have to inform you I am no longer standing to be re-elected National Chairman at the coming AGM. My resignation from my current post will become effective upon the closure of the AGM to be held on Saturday 30 April 2016 at Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth.

Since Christmas I have tried to carry the work of Chairman and part of the Secretary's role though a period of increasing work load. To achieve this I have been working at least 2 hours per day and many times up to 6 hours. The result has been a build up of stress which has caused me to re- appraise my priorities in life. I have now decided that to continue with a job that I no longer enjoy and have a much reduced empathy with, will no longer produce the best results for the Association or me personally.

I will continue to do as much as I can to do the best for the Association until April and hope to be able to map a way forward through the troubles that beset us. To this end an item "A way forward for the RAFPA" will be placed as the major topic on the agenda for the Executive Council Meeting to be held on Friday 29 April, full details will be on the website.

I do hope that members of the National Council will discuss this with their Branches and indeed, with each other, to bring to the table possible ways forward to be adopted should the Association remain without full management after the AGM. This ECM is probably the most important ever to the future of the Association and its future.

The following message has been sent to all U.K. Branch Secretaries on behalf of the St.Mike's members:

"The Members of the St.Michael’s Branch (Designate) would like to take the opportunity to wish all U.K. Branch members an enjoyable festive season".

12 December 2015

From the RAFPA Chairman:

Today I have received a request from our National Secretary (Alan Weeks) to be relieved of his duties as soon as possible for health reasons.

I have agreed with Alan that he will complete the preparations for the AGM then he will resign with effect from 0001 hrs 14 December inst.

The duties of the Secretary will now be divided with all communications except those regarding the AGM will come to me. All communications regarding the AGM, including voting forms, will go to Bill Veazey who has agreed to be co-opted by the National Executive officers to carry out this role. Bill will fulfil this part of the Secretary's role through to, and including, the AGM but is not standing for election to that position.

The loss of Alan Weeks' services will have a really serious effect on the running of the Association. I am already busy enough which will mean that some things e.g. replies to letters, may take longer to achieve. It may sound selfish on my part but I do not intend to put in any more time at this task than I am already doing. Last Friday I watched one of my Grandchildren in a nativity play - it brought home just where my priorities should be and that is where they are going.

I am sure that all members will join me in wishing Alan Weeks well and giving a sincere thank you for his services.

Roy Laver

9th April 2015

Taken from Facebook on 8th April:

It is with regret that I have to inform you of the impending closure of the Norfolk Branch. The Branch has been running with 2 Officers for some time and one of these, Sam Sillet, is moving out of the County leaving John Howard on his own. At an EGM on the 31 March 2015 it was decided that the Branch would close on the 12 May 2015. In the intervening period they will hold a Branch lunch paid for by Branch funds, make a donation of £500 to BLESMA, and the remaining sum returned to Association funds.

Alan Weeks
National Secretary

23rd February 2015

Today is the day that "St.Mike's" migrated to its own Domain.

We now know that the Association Officers will be referring the Branch Formation to the Executive Council so that matter is still very much "work in progress".

5th February 2015

The response to the suggestion of forming an Overseas Branch of the Association has been very positive and as a result John Armfield (France) submitted an application to form a Branch to the Association Officers on 4th February.

We can think of no conceivable reason why the application will be refused but do not envisage that it will be a quick process as “St.Mike’s” certainly does break the mould. The Officers may feel that they have to refer the matter to the Council which if they do is quite understandable.

Future developments will be posted as and when known.
